PRESIDENT CAQ

Issue #3

<aside> ๐ŸŒž

Hi again,

Anyone for tennis? Yes, Wimbledon is on and Iโ€™m glued to the TV set.

But why mention tennis here?

Well, the All England Lawn Tennis Club was founded on 23 July 1868 as The All England Croquet Club. Its name was changed in 1877 to The All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club, eventually dropping croquet from the title as new facilities were found for both sports.

And if someone talks about Olympics to you, bring up the fact that croquet was an Olympic sport -1900 and 1904.

Here's a quick rundown of the past month's highlights and a look ahead at what's next.

President to President Meetings:

I have begun a โ€œtourโ€ via Zoom, where necessary, of all our regions.

My aim is to gain a clearer understanding of the successes and challenges each club is experiencing, fostering open dialogue. This engagement is crucial for ensuring we are all operating on the same page regarding CAQ's direction and how we can collectively work towards our shared goals. Read More

At a recent seminar held at Parliament House, Minister for Minister for Sport and Racing and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tim Mander stated that investment in sport provides a seven-fold return in health benefits for Queensland's population for every dollar spent.

Now you can apply funds through the 2025 Health and Wellbeing Grants that are now open. Details below

Wearing Two Hats: Effective Management Committee Focus

โ€œIn the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity.โ€ โ€” Sun Tzu

Running a club involves plenty of hats to wear, and for those on the Management Committee, there are two particularly important ones!

Following on from discussions, including insights from the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) course, it's clear that committees balance aย dual role:

  1. The Procedural Hat:ย This is about the day-to-day stuff โ€“ managing operations, handling immediate issues, and keeping everything ticking over smoothly.
  2. The Strategic Hat:ย This involves looking ahead โ€“ planning for the future, setting long-term goals, and thinking about the club's direction and growth.

To make sure both of these crucial areas get the attention they deserve, a practical approach suggested is toย divide your committee meeting time into two distinct sections. Dedicate specific time to procedural matters and separate time for strategic discussions.

Why do this? It helps the committee maintain a clear focus, prevents immediate operational issues from completely overshadowing important future planning, and ensures you're actively managing both the present needs and the long-term vision of your club.

Considering this approach for your next committee meeting could be a great way to enhance effectiveness and keep everyone aligned!

                                                                                 [Back to Home Page](<https://quixotic-bonobo-9e2.notion.site/Hoopla-Issue-3-20fc9361423e803fa383ec1e102231b1>)
